Pyrenean ski areas are more compact and the resorts more closely tied to the villages: you often stay in a community that is lively all year round rather than in a purpose-built resort. Distances between your accommodation and the slopes are short, the atmosphere more family-oriented, and holiday prices generally lower than in the big Alpine ski areas.
The choice ranges from studios at the foot of the slopes to stone village houses, by way of apartments in residences and family chalets. Renovated barns and farmhouses are a speciality of the range, particularly in the Béarn, the Bigorre and the Ariège: large spaces, often for big groups or several families.
